One of the oldest towns in the province situated in the fertile valley of the Almanzora River.
Silver was discovered in the Almagrera Mountains in the 19th Century and as word spread Cuevas del Almanzora became home to many fortune hunters.
The town is named after the many artificial caves in the hills nearby which were once home to the miners. Many impressive house, once the homes of mining barons and elegant families still remain in the town.
Castillo de Cuevas del Almanzora: This palace / fortress was built high up in the town and was extended in 1770. It is now the home of the Cuevas Archeology Museum and the Municipal Library.
Parish Church de la Encarnacion: Founded in the 18th Century in the Baroque style and protected as a National Monument since 1982. The main altar has a valuable painting of the Last Supper.
Hermitage of San Pedro de Alcala: This houses the image of the Patron Saint of the town.
Convent of San Antonio: This was a charity hospital for more than one century and is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua.
