The walled, renaissance town of Vera is one of the most commercially important towns in the area.
Vera as we see it today is very much as it was built in the 16th Century and then later extended during the 18th century.
Church de la Encarnación: Built in 1520 more as a fort than a church, with 4 great towers to protect against the frequent Moorish attacks.
Townhall: Built in the 16th Century and renovated in the 18th Century now home to the Ethnographic and Archaeological Museums. Originally this was the barracks for the civil guard.
Plaza de Toros (Bullring): Built in 1879 in the Mudejar style and restored in 1993.
Bullfights still take place here.
Located between Puerto Rey and Villaricos and said to be the place where Hannibal landed his elephants in Roman times.
The area now has several hotels and beachside developments and the 8km of sandy beach have a Blue Flag award.
There is also a naturist urbanization and hotel opened in 1989.
There are many restaurants and bars and the only Water park in the area. The Water park is open from May to September and has slides, pools and play areas.
